Out with 2017 Greenery and In with Ultra Violet for Pantone’s Color of the Year 2018

Pantone’s Color of the Year 2018 – Ultra Violet

Pantone's Color of the Year 2018

Whether you loved or hated 2017’s Greenery, the year is at an end. If you embraced the bright, fresh shade, you’ll find the newest color even more interesting. If Greenery just wasn’t your thing, you’re probably relieved to see it go. For 2018, Pantone chose their final pick for the Pantone’s Color of the Year 2018 to be Ultra Violet , an amazing shade of blue-based purple inspired by the cosmos itself as well as the musical stars Prince, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix.

Pantone's Color of the Year 2017

Resourceful and Flexible

The color Ultra Violet is a color that can be the primary color of your decoration, offset with complimentary colors like baby-blues, soft greens and even crisp reds.  It can also be a support color bringing extra life from that leather sofa through the contrast created by Ultra Violet throw pillows or through proximity to curtains in Pantone 18-3838.  Mix with creams and even sage colors to evoke a tranquil mood.

Want to go with a more contrast type of view?  Simply pair Ultra Violet with colors like bright red, lime green and maybe throw in a dash of sunflower yellow.  While this will potentially suppress the calming effect invoked by Pantone 18-3838, the idea would be to add energy and invoke more energetic moods, which might be perfect for the living room or family room.

Greens to Purples

If you love the outdoors, you probably found Greenery, the color of 2017, to be a great color to create exceptional palette combinations to invoke the feeling of the woods and the adventure the outdoors can bring.  Interestingly, Pantone 15-0343 can easily be complemented by Ultra Violet and could add a bit of that fresh spring wildflower feeling.

If you were not thrilled by Greenery for 2017, then Pantone’s Color of the Year 2018, Ultra Violet, is probably the color for you.  As stated by Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, “We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to Pantone 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level.”  This color is ready for you to make it yours.

Ultra Violet in Home Décor

Ultra Violet is ready to be incorporated into your home décor, whether to add some fun to a dark room like your basement, to adding additional vibrancy to a hallway, foyer and even your bedrooms.  Perfect for a room sporting modern furniture complimented by art of the same vein, Ultra Violet can compliment or contrast just right to bring the room together.

Pantone Colors

Maybe you simply love those purple tones?  Then you’re definitely set with the 2018 Pantone Color of the Year.  Get that new couch in a vibrant Ultra Violet purple and then upgrade those curtains to something in the light blue spectrum with some splashes of vibrant green or yellow to truly create a feeling of life and vibrancy.  You’ll be sure to notice the positive mood the room can inspire in guests and even yourself!

Next Level Tech-niques

Pantone took some of our favorite hues from technology and our love of music and the amazing artist like Prince and David Bowie to create this fun-loving palette. Vibrant turquoise, brilliant white, along with hot pink, iridescent peacock and frosted almond all look futuristic and clean paired with newly announced Pantone’s Color of the Year 2018 – Ultra Violet. Add some iridescent wallpaper to make a teen’s bedroom shimmer, then add chairs and bedding in electric shades.

Decorate your office space with iridescent accent pieces, pink walls and bright, shiny white to make it feel innovative and whimsical. Pair hot pink and turquoise on a sleeper sofa and add a neon sign to turn an unused nook into a retro haven.

If you love the bright colors but want a more soothing look, decorate a bedroom with softer shades and use artwork to add a punch of color. Try an iridescent throw pillow with vibrant pom-poms or a frosted almond area rug.
